Overview
Africa.com is a pan-African news and business platform established in 2010, publishing news, business and lifestyle content covering all 54 African countries.
WebAcumen was appointed to modernise the platform while continuing to provide ongoing software development, Managed Hosting and infrastructure support.
Requirement
After more than a decade on WordPress, the platform had reached the point where a traditional monolithic architecture was no longer the most suitable approach for its scale and publishing requirements. The objective was to modernise the platform while retaining the editorial workflow already familiar to the publishing team.
Solution Delivered
WebAcumen redeveloped the public-facing website using React and Next.js while retaining WordPress as a headless content management system.
By separating content management from presentation, editors continue publishing through WordPress while the frontend operates independently, providing greater flexibility for future development.
In addition to the website itself, we continue to migrate supporting applications onto Supabase while providing ongoing development, maintenance and Managed Hosting.
Outcome
Africa.com now operates on a modern headless architecture that is easier to maintain, extend and develop while preserving the editorial workflow that powers daily publishing across the continent.
